A.V. Rockwell is an American film director from Queens, New York, who studied film at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Her early work includes the black-and-white series Open City Mixtape and The Gospel, a music-focused short made with Alicia Keys for her album Here, which won a silver Clio Award. Her 2018 short Feathers premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Tribeca Film Institute and CHANEL Through Her Lens grand prize. It was selected for the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and acquired by Fox Searchlight for Searchlight Shorts. Her feature debut, A Thousand and One (2023), starring Teyana Taylor, won a Gotham Award, a Black Reel Award and an Independent Spirit Award, and earned a Directors Guild nomination.
