Motor City Drum Ensemble | Boiler Room x Dekmantel Festival: Amsterdam

Danilo Plessow, then performing as Motor City Drum Ensemble, played the Boiler Room stage at Dekmantel Festival in 2014, taking over directly after a Young Marco set. The Skinny reviewed the second Dekmantel festival, held from 1 to 3 August 2014 in the Amsterdamse Bos, where Boiler Room hosted a stage in the woods. Danilo Plessow is a German producer and DJ known for the Raw Cuts series and a cofounder of the labels Space Grape Records, MCDE Recordings and Four Roses Recordings. Boiler Room's description at the time, cited by Dekmantel, set the 2014 Motor City Drum Ensemble performance on a warm Amsterdam Sunday afternoon. On the Sunday of Dekmantel 2014, The Skinny heard Motor City Drum Ensemble play Theo Parrish's edit of Little Sunflower and the Larry Levan version of Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Danilo Plessow told Dekmantel that he switched to playing freestyle roughly fifteen to twenty minutes into his 2014 Dekmantel Boiler Room set. Dekmantel's editorial says the 2014 Motor City Drum Ensemble Boiler Room set sums up his smooth blending, rare records and sudden changes of direction. Dekmantel's July 2022 retrospective on its Boiler Room partnership picked the 2014 Motor City Drum Ensemble set as one of the stage's standout entries.
