Girls Don't Sync | Mixmag Lab Liverpool

Girls Don't Sync

Girls Don't Sync headlined a Liverpool edition of The Lab On Location, the weekly live series from Mixmag and Coors, on Friday 3 December 2021, with Lucid and Beccs Vernon in support. The Liverpool edition of the Mixmag Lab was hosted at STN LVP, a newly opened space set above Lost Lounge with plans for weekly livestreams. Grayarea reported that the Girls Don't Sync Lab session marked the opening night of STN LVP and was the first Lab event held at the Liverpool venue. Girls Don't Sync are a Liverpool DJ collective formed in 2021, whose members are Sophia Violet, Hannah Lynch, Gaia Ahuja and Matty Chiabi. Before settling on the name Girls Don't Sync, the Liverpool collective started out as promoters booking emerging female DJs and first played under the name Girls on Deck. The name Girls Don't Sync pushes back against the stigma that women DJs depend on the sync button. Mixmag's preview pitched the Girls Don't Sync Lab set at 130 BPM, built on basslines from across the Atlantic and clattering drums. At the STN LVP session, Hannah Lynch, Sophia Violet, G33 and Matty Chiabi each took turns on the decks, with Grayarea noting styles that ranged over Afrohouse, tech house, UK garage and drum and bass. Rinse FM's profile of Girls Don't Sync credits a Mixmag Lab session, played soon after the collective came together in summer 2021, with bringing the group wide attention.
