Dengue Dengue Dengue Boiler Room & Ballantine's Stay True Portugal Live Set
Boiler Room
In June 2016 Ballantine's and Boiler Room took their Stay True Portugal project to Lisbon, setting Portuguese music culture inside a Boiler Room broadcast. The broadcast featured Buraka Som Sistema, Batida playing a DJ set, Dengue Dengue Dengue, DJ Marky, and the pairings of DJ Firmeza with DJ Nervoso and DJ Maboku with DJ Lilocox. XLR8R reported that the event set out to explore how African sounds and Portuguese dance music feed into each other. Dengue Dengue Dengue are a Peruvian duo, Felipe Salmon and Rafael Pereira, who work as producers, DJs and graphic designers. EARMILK explained that the name points to a tropical illness spread by mosquitoes, used as a metaphor for how infectious their music is. Based in Lima, the pair released their debut album La Alianza Profana on the Auxiliar label in 2012. Their second album, Siete Raíces, was their first for the Portuguese label Enchufada and came out on 24 June 2016. The title names a traditional Peruvian liquor brewed with roots, plants and bark from the jungle.
