Shimza afro house masterclass in The Lab Johannesburg

Mixmag announced in June 2019 that Shimza and Kid Fonque would take over The Lab Johannesburg on Wednesday 12 June. Mixmag and BUDX launched The Lab Johannesburg on 15 May 2019 as a weekly series in a Braamfontein building overlooking the city. Mixmag described Shimza as a leading figure in African house music for more than ten years. Shimza started his One Man Show event in Soweto in 2009, Mixmag noted in its June 2019 Lab announcement. Mixmag's June 2019 preview of the Lab Johannesburg date said Shimza had music on the way for both Knee Deep In Sound and Cadenza Records. Shimza won the male DJ category at the 2019 South African Dance Music Awards, where One Man Show also took the festival award. Kid Fonque, who shared the June 2019 Lab Johannesburg bill with Shimza, runs the label Stay True Sounds and hosts SelectiveStyles on the national station 5FM.
