BLACK COFFEE spiritual DJ set @ Mixmag Live, London

Mixmag Live booked Black Coffee for Village Underground in London on Friday 10 July 2015, with the night running from 10pm until 4am. Mixmag's preview of the Village Underground night introduced Black Coffee as a Durban born house DJ who had played Circoloco, The Hydra and Suncebeat the summer before. Black Coffee, born Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, founded Soulistic Music to release his debut album in 2005. Black Coffee's first world tour opened at Circoloco in Mexico in January 2015 and closed at Circoloco at DC-10 in August 2015. Mixmag streamed the Black Coffee set from Village Underground live on MixmagTV and mixmag.net, starting at 1am British Summer Time. OkayAfrica reported that Black Coffee played three hours for Mixmag Live at a sold out Village Underground, mixing his own records with music by Wizkid, Uhuru and Culoe De Song. Black Coffee's own Inkodlo Kamashimane arrives about fourteen minutes into the Mixmag Live set. Duze by Uhuru with Wizkid comes about two hours and seventeen minutes into Black Coffee's Mixmag Live set. In December 2015 Mixmag's look back at the year's DJs pointed to the Mixmag Live gig as the moment its writers fully grasped Black Coffee's weight as a musical force.
