Notion is the performing name of the producer and DJ Rob Penny. Rob Penny, who records as Notion, grew up in the West Midlands countryside and went to college in Hereford before moving to Bristol. Notion began as a DJ playing mostly drum 'n' bass, with early bookings at The Jailhouse club in Hereford. Notion put out a first EP, Digits, in 2012 on Formula Records, the label run by Champion. Notion self-released a debut album, OUTSIDER, in 2022. The Rinse FM profile of Notion lists UK garage, bassline, house, 140, jungle and drum and bass among the styles Notion works in. UKF Hyper Vision was a run of four weekly online events in July that paired DJ sets and live shows with visual art. UKF published the Notion set on its UKF On Air channel on 10 July 2020 as part of Hyper Vision, with visuals by Midnight Movement. The UKF upload of the Notion set is tagged bass house and bassline in its description.
