Electronic rock combines rock music with electronic music, drawing on instruments common to both.^[1] It dates back to the late 1960s, when rock bands first began incorporating electronic instrumentation.^[2] Typical instrumentation spans synthesizers, mellotrons and tape techniques alongside electric guitars and drums.^[3] Its crossover with punk, industrial rock, hip hop, techno and synth-pop has helped spur subgenres such as indietronica, dance-punk and electroclash.^[4]
