What is Reggae & Caribbean?

Reggae, one of this family's members, originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s.[1] Soca, another member, followed in Trinidad and Tobago in the 1970s.[2] Both draw on an older regional lineage, including calypso, which Afro-Trinidadians originated during the early to mid nineteenth century.[3]

On Videojam, the Reggae & Caribbean family (Reggae, Dub, Roots, Dancehall and Soca) carries 184 public videos combined. Dancehall is the largest single member by video count, followed by Reggae, with Soca, Roots and Dub close behind. Reggae & Caribbean is a top-level family in the genre config, launched at hidden prominence pending catalog volume.
